For the Keralit Undercover is ideal for protecting hooves under irons, plates and silicone as well as for the effective treatment of thrush in open stables.

Keralit Undercover is a well adhering, solid hoof care paste consisting of herbal spices such as turmeric and highly dispersed mineral substances, as well as bark extracts from various tree species, such as oak bark.

The ointment base used ensures that the ingredients are released evenly over 6 to 8 weeks. Keralit Undercover can be used specifically to prevent and help with horn decomposition processes in the white line, sole, corner strut and frog areas, ehorn columns and hollow walls. Keralit Undercover releases its ingredients over the entire fogging period. This happens more frequently when moisture gets under the shoeing from the outside, for example when washing the hooves or from the bedding.

Frog problems
Keralit Undercover is also often used to prevent and in acute cases of horn decomposition in the frog area. It is particularly suitable for horses kept in open stables or paddocks, as it remains in the frog furrows for several days and adheres well to the frog furrows even in wet weather. Daily application is therefore not necessary.

    • When using Keralit Undercover, the environment under the plate and silicone is changed over the misting period, or for several days in the case of thrush, so that decomposition processes caused by ammonia or microorganisms can no longer occur. Foul-smelling horn decomposition is prevented and the horn is safely stabilized. Keralit Undercover contains no iodoform or copper compounds and is therefore particularly gentle on the frog.

      Hollow and loose walls
Amazingly good results can be achieved with extreme and protracted wall decomposition and horn decomposition in the frog area if these hooves are shod with plastic plates and silicone inserts using Keralit Undercover.

Without the use of Keralit Undercover, shoeing with plates and silicone filling is not appropriate for hooves with poor horn quality, as the damaging microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) multiply and decompose the horn even more in the absence of light and air. However, some horses are dependent on orthopaedic shoes for the treatment of tendon or joint diseases, even though strong horn decomposition processes are present in the wall and frog area. The problems cannot be solved with other, normal horseshoes.

In these special cases, Keralit Undercover in combination with a closed plastic plate with silicone filling has proven to be ideal. The use of Keralit Undercover creates an environment in the small space between the hoof horn and the silicone, which reliably prevents further horn decomposition even over 7 to 8 weeks. Thanks to the silicone filling, the Undercover does not fall out and dirt and moisture from the bedding cannot get in. Hoof protection is thus sustainably improved, while the horn can grow back healthily. Use as described above. It should be noted that some horses require a familiarization phase of a few days when switching to shoeing with plates and silicone. A relatively soft silicone (such as "Wolke 7" from Luwex) is advantageous for sensitive horses.
