Keralit Hoof Hardener

Keralit Hoof Hardener is a liquid solution that stabilizes and strengthens the proteins found in the hoof horn - especially the scaffold protein keratin. As the main component of the horn, the keratin molecules form more new bonds with neighboring molecules and protein chains, while existing bonds are protected by an embedded active ingredient. The result is a significant increase in the strength and abrasion resistance of the hoof horn without impairing the hoof mechanism or the natural water balance. Keralit Hoof Hardener dener does not leave a water-impermeable coating like many other hoof protection products, such as UV varnishes, adhesives, oils or even grease.

The Keralit Hoof Hardener dener only stabilizes the keratin molecules directly on the horn surface, so that the layer thickness of the stabilized horn is approx. 0.4 to 0.5 mm on healthy horn (see also Vet. med. diss. B. Monhart, Zurich 2002). The Hoof Hardener can penetrate cracks and crevices more easily due to its thin liquid form. This prevents further horn decomposition processes, even in the case of covered horn damage, such as under the horseshoe. This property is particularly helpful in preventing damage such as that caused by "white line disease".

Only the horn that is directly exposed to abrasion or harmful substances such as ammonia, bacteria and fungi is stabilized. An unnatural hardening of the horn or even drying out, which would mean a reduction in the elasticity of the horn capsule, does not take place.

The Keralit Hoof Hardener is applied to the hoof with the enclosed bristle brush. For barehoofed horses, it is applied from below to the weight bearing edge, the white line and, if the horse is sensitive, also to the sole. Brush in from the side approx. ¼ to ⅓ of the hoof wall height.

For shod horses, brush the hoof wall up to and including the nail holes. The hoof hardener should be able to penetrate the old nail holes in particular and run under the shoe. The sole of the hoof can also be treated if necessary. This can replace the use of insoles and leather soles and helps to hardener the sole of the horse's hoof.

Treatment is usually carried out 1 to 2 times a week. In the case of severe horn decomposition or wet weather, the hoof hardener can also be used 3 to 4 times a week.
Bottle with 250ml, sufficient for approx. 3 to 4 months (warmblood, barehoof). For shod horses up to 6 months.

The question of use on damp horn is very common. The hoof hardener can also be used on moist horn without any problems. However, the absorption capacity of the horn is then limited, so that more frequent application, but with less hoof hardener, is advisable. Application to soaking wet or freshly greased hooves is less advisable.
