The Keralit Hoof Hardener helps directly on the hoof edge, sole and white line.

The use of Keralit Hoof Hardener strengthens the horn and makes it much more durable. After just two weeks of use, you will notice a slightly shinier appearance of the horn in these areas as well as a firmer sound of the hooves on hard ground. The horn abrasion of bare hoofed horses is greatly reduced. The weight bearing edge, sole and white line become much firmer and more resilient. The shoes of shod horses sit more firmly and the hoof is protected.

The use of Keralit Hoof Hardener greatly reduces the harmful effects of microorganisms, such as those that cause white line disease (WLD), as the horn becomes indigestible for the microorganisms responsible. This is particularly important for horn that is already damaged. Here, horn substance that is still usable is stabilized and further damage is avoided. In addition, regular treatment can help to strengthen the sole of the horse's hoof and thus further increase its resilience.

For which horses is Keralit Hoof Hardener suitable?

Keralit Hoof Hardener be used on all horses, ponies, and other hoofed animals. In zoos, for example, it is also used to treat rhinos and the shells of tortoises.

Optimal for:

  • bare hoofed horses to strengthen the suspensory ligament, sole and white line
  • the reduction of horn abrasion in horses with insufficient horn growth and poorer horn quality
  • shod horses with loose shoes
  • cracked horn walls to preserve horn substance and horn capsule
  • horses as a replacement for horseshoes
  • Horses with too low heels
  • Positioning errors
  • the decomposition of the white line (in the case of "white line disease")
  • Hollow and seedy toes
  • laminitis horses to strengthen the white line

    • Keralit Hoof Hardener is a liquid solution that stabilizes and strengthens the proteins found in the hoof horn - especially the scaffold protein keratin. As the main component of the horn, the keratin molecules form more new bonds with neighboring molecules and protein chains, while existing bonds are protected by an embedded active ingredient. The result is a significant increase in the strength and abrasion resistance of the hoof horn without impairing the hoof mechanism or the natural water balance. Keralit Hoof Hardener dener does not leave a water-impermeable coating like many other hoof protection products, such as UV varnishes, adhesives, oils or even grease.

The Keralit Hoof Hardener dener only stabilizes the keratin molecules directly on the horn surface, so that the layer thickness of the stabilized horn is approx. 0.4 to 0.5 mm on healthy horn (see also Vet. med. diss. B. Monhart, Zurich 2002). The Hoof Hardener can penetrate cracks and crevices more easily due to its thin liquid form. This prevents further horn decomposition processes, even in the case of covered horn damage, such as under the horseshoe. This property is particularly helpful in preventing damage such as that caused by "white line disease".

Only the horn that is directly exposed to abrasion or harmful substances such as ammonia, bacteria and fungi is stabilized. An unnatural hardening of the horn or even drying out, which would mean a reduction in the elasticity of the horn capsule, does not take place.
