The Keralit Hoof Hardener helps directly on the hoof edge, sole and white line.

The use of Keralit Hoof Hardener strengthens the horn and makes it much more durable. After just two weeks of use, you will notice a slightly shinier appearance of the horn in these areas as well as a firmer sound of the hooves on hard ground. The horn abrasion of bare hoofed horses is greatly reduced. The weight bearing edge, sole and white line become much firmer and more resilient. The shoes of shod horses sit more firmly and the hoof is protected.

The use of Keralit Hoof Hardener greatly reduces the harmful effects of microorganisms, such as those that cause white line disease (WLD), as the horn becomes indigestible for the microorganisms responsible. This is particularly important for horn that is already damaged. Here, horn substance that is still usable is stabilized and further damage is avoided.

For which horses is the Keralit Hoof Hardener?

The Keralit Hoof Hardener can be used for all horses, ponies and other hoofed animals. In zoological gardens, it is also used to treat rhinoceroses and tortoise shells, for example.

Ideal for:

  • barefoot horses to strengthen the weight-bearing border, sole, and white line
  • reducing horn abrasion in horses with insufficient horn growth and poor horn quality
  • shod horses with loose shoes
  • cracked hoof walls to preserve horn substance and the hoof capsule
  • sensitive-footed horses as a replacement for horseshoes
  • horses with heels that are too low
  • conformation flaws
  • the decomposition of the white line
  • Hollow and seedy toes
  • laminitis horses to strengthen the white line

    • Keralit Hoof Hardener is a liquid solution that stabilizes and strengthens proteins naturally occurring in the hoof horn, particularly the structural protein keratin. As the main component of the horn, keratin molecules form increased new bonds with neighboring molecules and protein chains, while existing bonds are protected by an embedded active ingredient. The result is a decisive increase in the strength and abrasion resistance of the hoof horn, without impairing the hoof mechanism or the natural moisture balance. Keralit Hoof Hardener does not leave a waterproof coating like many other hoof care products, such as UV varnishes, adhesives, oils, or even grease.

Keralit Hoof Hardener stabilizes the keratin molecules directly on the surface of the horn, resulting in a stabilized horn layer thickness of approximately 0.4 to 0.5 mm in healthy hooves (see also Vet. med. Diss. B. Monhart, Zurich 2002). Due to its low-viscosity formula, Hoof Hardener can penetrate cracks and crevices more easily. This prevents further horn degradation processes, even under covered horn damage, such as beneath a horseshow.

Consequently, only the horn directly exposed to abrasion or harmful substances such as ammonia, bacteria, and fungi is stabilized. Unnatural hardening of the horn or dehydration, which would reduce the elasticity of the hoof capsule, does not occur.
